Conversation Conservation šŸŒŽ

GREEN

In an era earmarked by global technological growth, conservation has become a major point of conversation. In an industry existing to make conversations happen, this is one we should all be a part of.

Video Remote Interpreting has changed the environmental impact of the Communication Access and Accessibility industries in more ways than you might expect.

According to an article by Greenly Institute, “…the average American produces 11,242 pounds of carbon dioxide every year from driving alone.”

The individual and collective carbon footprint is now the elephant in the room in size and attention. Interpreters often times have multiple assignments a day with locations changing for each assignment. Distance between locations can vary from 5 miles to 50 miles with a significant travel total at the end of each day. Video remote interpreting reduces this footprint as it removes the need for gathering for conversation to occur. VRI allows for the interpretation for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in conversation with hearing individuals, all within a convenient virtual setting.

Interpreters are no longer required to commute to each assignment but simply log on with equipped devices. In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, VRI and digital scheduling resources lower the need for paper, reducing deforestation and air, water, and land pollution naturally resulting in the production of paper.

Finally, the effect of conversations made possible through the work of VRI is incalculable. Many conversations about avoiding waste, pollution, conservation and many more areas of environmental protection are made possible with video remote interpreting. Environmental protection requires the perspective and action of everyone, including those who are Deaf and hard-of-hearing.

With VRI, conservation is included in every conversation.
