Setting Up Breakout Rooms in Microsoft Teams
How to Create Breakout Rooms
- Go to your Teams calendar and open the meeting invite.
- Find Breakout rooms and select Create rooms.
- Select the number of rooms you want to add and select Add rooms.
- Select Assign Participants.
- If you would like Teams to assign participants to rooms, select Automatically. If you would like to assign participants to rooms yourself, select Manually.
- If you choose Manually then select Next.
- Choose the participants you want in a room by checking the boxes next to their names.
- Select the down arrow next to Assign and select a room.
- Repeat this step until all participants have a room assignment. When you are finished, select Confirm.
- Make sure the Deaf participant(s) are in the same breakout room as the sign language interpreter and/or captioner.
How to Start Breakout Rooms
- In the meeting controls, select Breakout rooms.
- To open all the rooms, select Open.
- To open a single room, hover over the room. The … ellipsis will appear. Click on the ellipsis.
- Select Open room.
How to Close Breakout Rooms
- In the meeting controls, select Breakout rooms.
- To close all rooms, select Close.
- To close an individual room, hover over the room and select More options.
- Select Close room.
How to Move a Participant to a Different Breakout Room
- In the meeting controls, select Breakout rooms.
- Select Assign participants and check the box next to the participant you want to move.
- Choose a new room for the participant and select Assign.
- Select Move.
