Rules vs. Values

Rules vs. Values

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law in 1990. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public.

The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

We believe this is one of the best laws created in the last 30 years – and one that helps ensure clear communication for a population we serve each day to help countless government agencies, schools, medical facilities, or businesses be in compliance to this rule.

Obviously compliance of a federal law is important. However, finding an ASL service provider with a shared set of values with your organization is equally valuable.

Here’s a list of things to look for when choosing an ASL interpreting agency:

Efficient delivery of service

Does your service provider make use of technology and the best interpreters available? A service provider that chooses to cut corners will waste your staff’s time in various ways by causing unnecessary repeat visits, misunderstandings, and create frustrating situations.

Outside the box solutions

Can your provider find solutions to your unique situation? Your business, nonprofit, medical facility, school, or government agency is unique – you need to find a seasoned business that has literally seen everything.

Customer Service Matters

Will your service provider bend over backwards to provide service when you need it most? Are they accountable? Are they a full service agency where you can make one phone call and they take care of all details?

Deaf Services works in all 50 states and has interpreters across the country available when you need them most. Most importantly, these values have always been at the forefront of each and every decision Deaf Services Unlimited makes as an organization. So much so that we make the following promise to all of our clients:

Client Service Promise
